ZZ Top has appeared in several movies that include "Back To The Future Part III" (1990) which features the band's hit, "Doubleback," in the soundtrack. The band has released dozens of albums through 2019, many gold- and platinum-certified, that include such critical and commercial successes as "Eliminator" (1983), "Afterburner" (1985), "Recycler" (1990), and "Antenna" (1994). ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and their numerous other honors and accolades include three MTV Video Music Awards and induction into Hollywood's RockWalk in 1994. ZZ Top's fame reached a new high in 1984 with the Top 10 smash, "Legs," followed by numerous hits through 2000 that include "Rough Boy" (1986), "Velcro Fly" (1986), and six Billboard Mainstream Rock chart toppers: "Sleeping Bag" (1985), "Stages" (1985), "Doubleback" (1990), "Concrete And Steel" (1990), "My Head's In Mississippi" (1990), and "Pincushion" (1994). This smash was followed by a steady stream of hits through the early 1980s that include "It's Only Love" (1976), "Arrested For Driving While Blind" (1977), "I Thank You" (1980), "Cheap Sunglasses" (1980), "Leila" (1981), "Gimme All Your Lovin" (1983), and "Sharp Dressed Man" (1983). ZZ Top debuted on the Pop/Rock charts in 1972 with "Francene," a minor hit followed by "La Grange" (1974) and "Tush" (1975), the band's first Top 20 hit.

In 1971, the band released its debut album, "ZZ Top's First Album," followed by "Rio Grande Mud" (1972) and "Tres Hombres" (1973) which include ZZ Top's earliest hits. By 1970, after a number of personnel changes, the final classic lineup consisted of Gibbons, Dusty Hill (vocals, bass), and Frank Beard (drums), and ZZ Top had signed with London Records. ZZ Top was formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas with original members Lanier Greig (bass, organ), Dan Mitchell (drums), and lead singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons. The band then underwent a change in both musical style and public image beginning in the late 1970s and became an MTV pop culture icon famous for such hard-driving rockers as "Gimme All Your Lovin" (1983), "Legs" (1984), "Sleeping Bag" (1985), and "Velcro Fly" (1986). ZZ Top first came to national prominence with such rollicking boogie rock classics as the bluesy "La Grange" (1974) and the bawdy "Tush" (1975). A popular live act with a devoted following, they are known for their dynamic stage presence as well as the band members' signature long beards and golf hats. Nice, tight, three-and-a-half minute blasts of sonic bliss - no filler.ZZ Top is a highly acclaimed and veteran blues rock band that became famous beginning in the early 1970s. How could I listen to classic rock for 25 years and not know about this?! It's like discovering a new band for the very first time.

Such a great variety of genres, rock, blues, country twang. The beautiful closing instrumental track "Asleep in the Desert" with its Spanish flamenco-style guitars. I had never heard any of these tracks before, but wow, I was blown away! Those funky riffs and rhythms (Billy Gibbons is a criminally underrated guitarist), Frank Beard's drums BEFORE the overprocessed four-on-the-floor sound of the 80's, and the nice fat warm analog sound on vinyl (this band was MADE for vinyl). Having found some good condition used vinyl of Tres Hombres, 1st Album, Tejas, El Loco, I have been really digging in and discovering so many gems I have never heard before.Ĭase in point, I just put on side 2 of Tejas.

I had always been very familiar with the various collections, greatest hits & best ofs and what they play on the radio, along with some of the deeper tracks from "One Foot in the Blues". I have recently been diving deeper into the early ZZ Top albums coincident with my renewed interest in all things vinyl.
